| Greetings to the World's Greatest Divers!!! From Tom Pritchard . . . A slightly different mix of divers at Willow last night. Terry, Gerhard Maree's friend and newbie diver, lost his Willow virginity last night - and given the crummy viz we had, I suspect it's lost for good. Terry did a good job with his buoyancy and air and, get this: He didn't think the viz was that bad. Where the hell has this guy been diving, anyway? James Zimmerman was there too. It appears that ZMan finally screwed up enough courage to tell the cows to cross their legs and hold their milk - he had diving to do! We were so happy to see James, we told him his pink wreck reel line looked really cool. I didn't even know that Martha Stewart sold dive gear; what was I thinking? The four of us splashed in and did a rope tour from the cement dock to the Quest and back to the platform via the cement mixer,. The viz, a crummy 3 ft near the surface, improved to 8 ft at the platform and gradually opened up to 15 ft on the bow of the Quest. GMan, working with only half a tank, exited with Terry while James and I headed off to points east. The viz near the snowmobile was so bad due to the runoff from the recent rain that it would best be described as "chunky." Also in attendance was Paul "Speedy" Burnhart and Greg "Strawberry Ice Cream" Kulp. When I told my son that I broke in my new dive vehicle last night, his response was, "Great dad! Whatda hit?" I'm tellin' ya: You hit one crummy light post and a couple of trees with your son's truck and he thinks he can bust your ass forever. Speaking of busting my ass, I spotted Donnie Bradley there, but he snuck in the water before I was able to ask him why my emails to him get sent back with the msg, "scupsdad is not accepting email from tcp1@psu.edu." Geez, I feel like a telemarketer who just found out that people don't like getting his phone calls during dinner. So far this week, 67 minutes of diving pleasure sandwiched by 6 days, 22 hrs, and 53 minutes of miserable surface interval. I suspect that next week will be better. From Bryan Palmer . . . Well this was an interesting week weather wise. First we had hurricane Alex to worry about, then the tornados that hit central pa making for some iffy diving. Well Hurricane Alex ended up not being to much of a worry as I headed to NC with Sharon Slieker-Jones and York Divers. But before that we were literally blown out at BSC from a tornado warning for daulphin county and even for Bainbridge area so wed night diving was a bust. Day 1- Saturday Saw us diving on the Aeolus first. Viz was pretty bad for NC only about 15 ft, which can be contributed to Alex, but water temps were still in the mid to high 70's about the only subject of interest that stood out was a Hog fish when we first got down the line and a School of amberjacks. We decided to move inland to the Indra and The water was much nicer. 50-60 feet of viz more typical of NC. Sharon and I penetrated into the wreck covering what I would say is most of the wreck including below the sand Line. during one of these we came upon a Scrawled cowfish, we also came across 2 octopus during the dive as well. I learned to never leave my camera on the boat during this dive. I had left the camera on the boat do to the dismal viz on the Aeolus and didn't feel like taking it on the second. What a disappointment for me. We both had dive times relatively close to 55 minutes @ 110' and 63 min @ 79' a new deep record for the Indra as I mentioned I hit 79' as Captain Jerry and Mate Justin looked at me like in such a way to say " where the $%&# did you go????" Day 2 - Sunday brought with it a dive on the Nomania, we had 74 min @ 112'. on this dive, we saw a puffer fish and a Frog fish along with the typical arrow crabs, french angels and very large spade fish. The second Dive took us to the Lobster Wreck even further off shore where we racked up a dive time of 68 minutes and a depth of 122'. During this dive I saw and attempted to get what was 8-10# spiny lobster. I think these Lobsters are smarter then the North American lobsters we have off the coast of Del/NJ coast. We also saw several Lionfish and some Grouper. Sharon did an excellent job penetrating and even did creature finding for me while underwater which made the most out of every dive. It is always a pleasure Diving with Sharon and a great time Diving with Discovery Diving In Beaufort, NC with Capt Jerry and Mate Justin. As for Local diving I will not be out much as I head to Isla Mujeres, Mexico on Dennie's Dive Trip, then back to work in NJ, and out to Vancouver Canada over the Next 3 weeks, so look for many more Dive reports and pictures to come over the next 3-4 weeks. From Darth Vern . . .
Keep on diving and LIVE THE ADVENTURE!!! |
