DIVE THERMAL LAKE!!!
Come join Smokey's Divers Den for 2 days of diving at Mt. Storm, WV, aka Thermal Lake, on April 12-13. Mt. Storm is a cooling reservoir for a coal fired power station. Water temperatures in the winter can run in the mid-60's and in the summer can be as high as mid-90's!
If you are working towards your PADI advanced open water certification, this can be used as one of the adventure dives. The Allegheny Mountains put the lake at 3244 feet above sea level making this an altitude dive that would count as one of the five required adventures dives. There is a lot of available info about Mt. Storm at any of the following websites:
It is a 3 - 4 hour drive from Lancaster to Mt. Storm. If you are interested we will be staying at Abrams Creek Campground which is located about 3 miles from Mt. Storm. You can bring a tent or rent a cabin; cabin reservations
must be made in advance. You can do so online at
www.abramscreek.com
There are no places to get air fills at Mt. Storm so you will need to bring all necessary equipment and air for the weekend. For this reason, Smokey's is offering a tank rental special: we will rent tanks for only the cost of the air fill ($5). You can use the tank and only pay for the air. Please let us know your equipment needs in advance as we may need to reserve equipment/tanks for you. We have aluminum as well as steel tanks available.
Call or email Smokey's for more info.
We hope to see you there!!!!!

Update
We are delighted to see the number of people going to Mt. Storm keeps growing every week. Looking at the group so far, it looks like it will be a fun trip. The group is not all divers; we have some swimmers and some bubble watchers as well. For those of you who are planning on taking the advanced open water course need to let us know so we can get the necessary reading material to you ahead of time.
The plan is to head out early Saturday morning which will put us there by 11 (or shortly thereafter), do some diving and eat lunch. We all need to provide our own meals as this is a state run facility. After lunch everyone can do more diving, swimming, snorkeling, etc. By late afternoon we will go over to Abrams Creek Campground where we can all grab supper.... maybe a campfire or cookout. Any other suggestions you have would be appreciated!
If anyone is interested we can go back to Mt. Storm for a night dive. On Sunday, we hope to get another dive or two in before packing up and heading home.
To make reservations a little easier, we have rented one of the cabins under Smokey's name. If you would like a spot in the cabin please let me know. This will be on a first come, first serve basis. Otherwise there are dorm style rooms available in the lodge or tent sites, please refer to
www.abramscreek.com for further details and prices. If you have any questions please contact us. We will continue to send out updates on the trip.
There is still time if anyone has equipment repairs or inspections that need to be done. Please let us know how we can be of assistance.
Thanks!
